What does IAOP stand for?
IAOP is the abbreviation for the International Association of Oral Pathologists.
What is the purpose of IAOP?
IAOP was established in 1976 and has as its major objectives the development and promotion of the practice of oral pathology and the advancement of knowledge in clinical aspects, laboratory diagnosis and research in oral pathology and also the encouragement of communication between individuals of all nations in pursuance of these objectives.
How is IAOP organised?
IAOP has a Council consisting of a President, President-Elect, Past President, six Councillors representing geographical regions and a Secretary/Treasurer. The President holds office for a period of two years. The Secretary/Treasurer is appointed for a period of two years and is eligible for re-election. Councillors for each region are elected for four years, with half of the Council positions being replaced every two years.
What are the IAOP regions?
Councillors represent the following geographical regions: Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America and Latin America.

Does IAOP have meetings?
IAOP organises a meeting every other year. The proceedings generally include plenary lectures, symposia, slide seminars, free communications and continuing education sessions.
The next (13th) IAOP Congress will be held in Brisbane, Australia, from 21-25 June 2006, shortly before the International Association for Dental Research conference in the same city. The Congress website address is www.icms.com.au/iaop2006
The 14th Congress will be held in San Francisco, USA, in 2008.
Previous IAOP Meetings have been held in Gothenburg (1981), Amsterdam (1984), Edinburgh (1986), Philadelphia (1988), Tokyo (1990), Hamburg (1992), York (1994), Toronto (1996), Cape Town (1998), La Antigua, Guatemala (2000), Singapore (2002) and Madrid (2004).
How can I become a member of IAOP?

Who can join IAOP?
Any individual who is interested in oral pathology is eligible for membership of the association, provided that such a person conforms to the recognised standards of professional ethics.
How much does membership cost?
Subscription is currently 20GBP or 30USD per year.. Payment can be made by bank cheque or by credit card.
What are the benefits of membership?
Members receive regular newsletter, have access to educational material from congresses and access to contact details of other members. Members also benefit from a reduced registration fee for IAOP Congresses.
Is there a special rate for student membership?
Subscriptions are kept to low level and it is not felt that the rates payable warrant a lower rate for students.
Are there any concessions for retired people?
Retired members do not pay subscriptions.
Can I join IAOP online?
At this point, this facility is not yet available but such a service is anticipated in the near future.
